All have employed extended journeys as an avenue for exploring America\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s cultural landscape. Morton\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <em>In Search of England<\/em> and JB Priestley\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <em>English Journey<\/em> to Daniel Defoe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <em>Tour through the Whole Island of Great Britain<\/em> and Patrick Keiller\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s film <em>Robinson in Space<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 In his diaries, J.M.W. Turner talks about extended summer trips around England, where he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d take time to visit his patrons and undertake new commissions.\u00c2\u00a0 He worked in areas that attracted well-to-do summer tourists and their families, sketching scenes they might like to remember and admire again in watercolours.<\/p>\n<p><span>Here&#8217;s an article from the New York Times in 2004 called <a title=\"New York Times\" href=\"http:\/\/query.nytimes.com\/gst\/fullpage.html?res=9905EFDF1238F937A35754C0A9629C8B63\" target=\"_blank\">Travels With Walker, Robert and Andy<\/a> about the\u00c2\u00a0&#8221;on the road&#8221; tradition in photography.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve long been fascinated by the tradition of the road trip in photography, partly thanks to the work of some of my early photographic influences notably\u00c2\u00a0Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Joel Sternfeld and of course Stephen Shore.
