{"id":132,"date":"2008-06-16T03:54:19","date_gmt":"2008-06-16T10:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/we-english.co.uk\/blog\/?p=132"},"modified":"2008-06-16T04:07:21","modified_gmt":"2008-06-16T11:07:21","slug":"the-numbers-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/we-english.co.uk\/blog\/2008\/06\/16\/the-numbers-game\/","title":{"rendered":"THE NUMBERS GAME"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve now covered close to 2000 miles during our first two months on the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It seems timely to have a short rant about petrol prices given the current panic buying of fuel due to apparent\u00c2\u00a0shortages caused by\u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"petrol strike\" href=\"http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/tol\/news\/uk\/article4136886.ece\" target=\"_blank\">striking<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0tanker drivers. Yesterday we came dangerously close to getting stranded on the A1 while it took us four attempts to find a garage between\u00c2\u00a0Peterborough and Huntingdon\u00c2\u00a0that had diesel available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Since budgeting this road trip in September 2007 fuel prices have risen by nearly 50% from \u00c2\u00a30.95\/litre last September to a high of \u00c2\u00a31.35\/litre today. Fingers crossed prices don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t continue to surge, otherwise we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll have to resort to converting the motorhome to run on <a title=\"vegetable oil\" href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/newsbeat\/hi\/technology\/newsid_7451000\/7451549.stm\" target=\"_blank\">vegetable oil<\/a>! <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">By the way, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be working out our\u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"carbon footprint\" href=\"http:\/\/www.direct.gov.uk\/en\/Environmentandgreenerliving\/actonco2\/DG_067197)\" target=\"_blank\">carbon footprint<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0at the end of the journey and doing our bit to offset.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Staying with numbers, I have to admit I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got a strange fascination with clocks and speedometers! There can be something quite beautiful about the order of numbers.
