We decided to pull over in\u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"Ripon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ripon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ripon<\/a> for an early tea and given it&#8217;s Friday night, what better than a serving of fish and chips with a side order of mushy peas. Our chosen chippy,\u00c2\u00a0the curiously named &#8216;Whitby Harbour&#8217; (we&#8217;re at least fifty miles inland from Whitby), didn&#8217;t disappoint.<\/p>\n<p>Fish and chips has been the nation&#8217;s favoured takeaway dish since the late Victorian era and has only lately been challenged for supremacy by Indian food.\u00c2\u00a0For the gourmets among you, why not read this <a title=\"History of Fish &amp; Chips\" href=\"http:\/\/www.historic-uk.com\/CultureUK\/FishandChips.htm\" target=\"_blank\">short history<\/a> of this humble dish.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;.Fish &amp; Chips (with mushy peas).
